Fashionable Friday from Polish and Pout

18 May
This week my friend, Jess (and fellow blogger on Glamonics) was kind enough to help me out when I had loads of questions about the fuss around BB Creams. I didn’t know where to start and figured some of you may have the same questions. So here it is, from the mouth a pro! With Jess’ recommendations, I went out and tried Clinique’s BB Cream and have fallen in love after two short days. I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Thanks Jess!

Just what is all the fuss about? What makes it different from other products? What are its benefits? Do I need it? Which one should I purchase? Those were my questions too. Hi, I’m Jess!…
My list of products that I use is a long one to begin with (I’m a makeup artist and beauty blogger over at Polish and Pout)! I love it when something exciting comes out, but I also want to know whether this bb stuff everyone is talking about is good or just a gimmick before I jump on the bandwagon.
So here it is in a nutshell: BB cream (stands for Blemish Balm or Beauty Balm) is a multi-functional product. It provides coverage and evens out skin tone while actually helping your skin! Most BB creams provide built in skin care benefits such as anti aging, antiacne, or sun damage reversal. Add to that SPF, built in primer, hydration, and actual coverage! Plus, many are oil absorbing, unlike their older sister the tinted moisturizer, and give better coverage too!
Who needs it? Everyone! For the minimalist or short on time person, this one stop shop is the way to go. For those who like the natural-my-skin-just-looks-this-amazing-always-I-don’t-even-have-to-try look (umm, don’t we all want that?!), BB creams cover while looking like your own skin! And for the makeup junkie (like myself!) who really does not like to go anywhere without something on, even on quick trips to the store, this is the perfect weekend or gym makeup product! And for those who love their full face of makeup at all times, why not swap your current primer for one that’s good for your skin and gives you more coverage?
Sounds like a win-win to me! So, which ones to try and which ones to buy? Stop by my beauty blog Polish and Pout, to get the in’s and out’s of the ones on the market right now and which is right for you!
Cheers,
Jess

Remnants of Spring

16 May

I know I have been MIA the last couple of weeks and for that I apologize, I really do. I swear I have a good reason and I promise to share more soon. In the meantime, here are some of my favorite things I have loved about Spring. And this Summer, I promise to be around more.

Fashionable Friday – Get Naked

13 Apr

A while back my dear sister-in-law put herself on a wait list for the Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palette. She raved about the gorgeous colors and was on that wait list for way too long. She finally got her palette and had nothing but the best things to say about it. I thought about getting one but have a thing for uniformity and couldn’t bring myself to break the monotony of my tiny black circular clear top MAC shadows, silly I know.

When my birthday rolled around last week I was over the moon to be gifted the set by my amazing mother. I have been using it non-stop and absolutly adore the colors. And how could you pass up colors with names like hustle, sin, and virgin? This is a must have for any makeup collection.

You can find it at Macy’s and Sephora, or if you want to give the new one a try they recently came out with the Naked 2 {I personally liked the original colors a bit better}!

Make it Sizzle

18 Jan

So after this last post I got to thinking that maybe {ahem} Valentine’s Day isn’t all about me. So I put my thinking cap on and started to contemplate how I could make Valentine’s a “hubby day” this year. My ideas consisted of me cooking a nice dinner at home, a movie of his choosing, some lingerie, a sexy dress, pretty makeup….woops getting back to me again. Let’s be honest, getting all glammed up and sexy is just as much for us as them. What the heck, he will still like it, right?

And then I come home to these tonight. Oh geesh. Such a guy! It was almost like a sign that maybe it’s his turn to be spoiled.

DIY Glitter Nails

The Tiny is On Its Way

This morning my sister-in-law texted that she was going into labor! I am so excited to have a new niece/nephew {gender a surprise}. With 5 nephews a niece would nice, as I mentioned here, but I think it will be another boy. Not that I am complaining, but girls are just so fun. While doodling around the house waiting for the “baby has arrived text” I decided to use the glitter gift set this same sweet sister gave me for Christmas and jazz up my manicure.

As you may know gel/shellac nails{whatever you wanna call them} are all the rage right now. While I do love them, I tend to get a little bored of the same color and design after two weeks. So this last time I headed over I decided to skip the fancy {example here} and just go with a plain color. Black seemed so fitting for New Years Eve and it matched the contrast zipper on my bridesmaid dress, so I went with it.

I have glittered a nail for new years {here}, added a heart another day, and today in honor of baby-to-be am glittering with my sister’s gift.

I love that no matter when I want I can take it off and try something else! For those of us who get bored with one color, here are my steps to changing it up.

The Goods:

  • Glitter
  • Clear polish
  • Something with a pointy end {I’ll call mine “poker”}

1. Pick your glitter and sprinkle a few onto some paper {easier cleanup}

2. Dab a glob of polish onto something easy to clean or throw away

3. Using your poker dip the tip into the polish

4. With the poker pickup a {as in one} piece of glitter and ever so lightly dip it back into the polish

5. Place the now sticky glitter on your nail

6. Finish your design and follow with a top coat of clear

And with the gel/shellac you can quickly take off the glitter with polish remover and your manicure is as it was before! Voila!

Sparklers + Kisses

28 Dec

New Year’s Eve always brings so much pressure! Find the right party, wear the right clothes, take the right pictures. So much to do. I had originally planned to spend a snowy weekend in moutains of Big Bear with some friends but unfortunately our plans have fallen through and I again find myself on a mission for the perfect plans. No more low key sweats and games…I’m a bit bummed. In light of my new {yet to me determined} plans I have made myself a New Year’s Eve checklist. What are you must-do’s for New Years?

  1. Wear sparkles
  2. Spend the night with people I love
  3. Smokey eyes
  4. Sky high heels
  5. Watch the ball drop + kiss my man
  6. And just for fun go to bed with my hair still all done!

White Christmas

6 Dec

Oh boy am I dreaming of a white Christmas. Not only do I love the movie, and watch it at least one a season {more if the hubby is gone}, but I love love love cold weather.

Once upon a time I spent the holidays in Aspen frolicking in snow. Okay maybe I imagine it different than it was, but I loved running from store to store to escape the -30 degree weather, getting all dressed up for a night out, throwing on a huge coat, and checking it at the door. It felt like a movie!

I have tried every year to convince my hubby to escape for the holidays, run away and enjoy it together, just us two. Two years ago he agreed and we spent Christmas in New York. Sadly, there wasn’t much snow but I got to bundle up and strut around in my boots and long pea coat. Dreamy.

This year I tried again, he wouldn’t fall for it. No Aspen, no Whistler, no Banff. Boo. You better believe I am not giving up.

For now, I will enjoy the weather here.

The best part {kidding} of the cool weather this year has been the other night when Teddy decided to eat 2 plates of dessert out of the trash. He got so sick and for an entire night cried and whined having to poo. Finally at 3:45am my amazing hubby got up and took Teddy out for a walk, he had to take him almost a mile before he finally felt better! That was some cold weather I will pass on.

So throw on White Christmas and sing along….”Snow, snow, snow….it won’t be long before we’ll all be there!”
