About a month ago during a meeting at work it became apparent that there was something living in the air ducts that was not supposed to be there. Facing what he was sure would be some less than delightful rodent, our maintenance man headed into the ducts. When he came down he had with him three of the tiniest, cutest kittens ever. Turned out I opened my big mouth about keeping one before actually thinking it through and I {we} ended up with one gray and one orange 4-ish week old kittens.
The hubby quickly realized he was allergic and they had to go. It was a sad day but I knew it was for the best. But for those two days both Teddy and I loved these little fluff balls.
The hubby and I know that eventually Teddy will need a friend of sorts, maybe even need a fluffy white lady friend.
Who doesn’t love a cute casual bag? The potential uses are endless…beach bag, grocery bag, gym bag, shopping bag, or even something simple — an anything bag. Every Spring I start seeing these cute bags around and think I should make my own rather than buying them, and it has yet to happen. Not anymore. I have conquered the DIY painted bag.

Happy Leap Year!
Well I have put my distaste for Valentine’s Day aside and sent out of few cards and gifts, have heart shaped cookies baking right now in the oven, and got a couple cutesy things for around the house. See mom, all your holiday fun when I was a kid paid off. I wonder how the Hubby would feel about pink pancakes…

I might even wear pink or red on Tuesday! What a change!

I’m not into New Year’s resolutions. Maybe it is because its the thing to do, but I can’t even remember the last time I made one. I decided to start with making some simple goals for the New Year! So here they are…
1. Eat less cheese. {as you can see from the this and this I eat too much}
2. Finish this mix matched stack of books that has been slowly gathering dust beside my bed.
3. Organize my closet & jewelry {which also like my books have begun taking over our dresser, bathroom counter, and other random places}
4. Do pilates twice a week.
Dear 2011, you were amazing and full of unforgettable memories! Bring on 2012!

Have you seen the movie Four Christmases? The first time I saw it I wasn’t such a huge fan, it was okay. It happened to come on tv the other night and the hubs and I watched it again. With this being our third Christmas since being married I watched the story unfold in a whole new light. I got it, I understood the desire to spend the holidays on the beaches of Bali rather than running from place to place. But I knew when I married the hubs and he when he married me that this was what our future held. So here it is Day 1 of literally, our 4 Christmases.
Although in the movie they also have 4 Christmases, we do not have the craziness that they encounter. The night started with wine, cheese, and catching up with my brother who has been filming his new movie in LA all month, my sister who is always busy with her boys, my Nana who I don’t see enough, and my step sister who just went on a date with one of our favorite friends! When dinner was ready we were all surprised and excited to see each our plates with our own Cornish game hen! We had so much fun trying to figure out how to eat these tiny birds without making a huge mess. It was a success.

{my favorite cuties who I take too many photos of}
Last Sunday we braved the heat, yes 80+ degrees here in San Diego, and headed out for our Christmas Tree. I had to drag the hubby, but Teddy was more than happy with a trip to Home Depot. His admiration of trees started there when he decided to start marking trees in the shed…woops. We got the tree home and after setting it up realized it needed to be trimmed quite a bit more at the base. We pulled out the trusty DeWalt tools and the boys went to town. I say boys, because Teddy was there for support!
He has been loving his first Christmas Tree! He has been laying under the tree, sniffing the branches, letting them brush his face, and letting me wrap him in the lights. What a good sport!
My favorite part of the holidays + decorating are my family heirlooms
I am so excited to get my holiday baking on!
In light of getting in the Thanksgiving spirit I decided I would leave the baking to everyone else and turn to my crafty side for something to contribute. After some brain storming and careful consideration I decided to make place settings for the table. There are only going to be about 15 people at dinner, but who doesn’t like to be told where to sit? Just kidding.
Feeling all Martha Stewart-y I devised my plan…succulents, a bow, and the name. Should be easy. I did my best to not have to buy extra stuff and once again my piles of extras from past crafting came in handy. I stopped by my local flower shop, Bambi’s, and picked up mini individual plants.
Since I picked them up on my lunch break I had some time back at work to contemplate how to jazz them up. I decided on wrapping them in brown wrapping paper {kinda messy like}, tying a colored paper string around it and tagging them. It took a couple tries with the paper, a few more to figure out how the bow looked best, and some googling for an easy scissors only needed tag designs. All in all it was very reasonable, super easy, and I love the way they turned out! Can’t wait to see them in action!!

I like the overall gist of Thanksgiving, but for some reason I have never really been its hugest fan. I’m not typically a turkey person, I don’t like eating so much that my tummy hurts, there are always way too many dishes to wash, and really I can’t help but be excited for the day after when I can head out to buy my tree! Thanksgiving is definitely overshadowed by Christmas in my book.
This year, I am making an effort to try to get into it more. My hubby has decided to use his mom’s recipe and make all the stuffing for this year, which I am excited to blog about {and eat}! I will be making place settings for the table and finally get to hang out with my nephews.
*This whole job thing is really getting in the way of my nephew “I’m your favorite” brainwashing campaign.
So here is the beginning of my effort to get into the Thanksgiving spirit!
