Finally Showing

22 Jul

Today my first online order of maternity work pants showed up. The timing couldn’t be better as it seems like over the weekend all of a sudden I have a belly. My flat tummy and abs are a thing of the past and to be honest, I am quite sad about it. I keep telling myself “you are over halfway done”. Thank goodness it still is pretty small, but I have a bad feeling it won’t be for long.

This week I’m planning to bite the bullet and put away my clothes that are just a tad too snug. And so it begins.

And I apologize for the lack of posts, I am still so tired all the time. Maybe soon all this energy of the 2nd trimester everyone keeps telling me about will finally arrive.

Sickie

28 Jun

I am home sick today and decided it was about time to get to the blog. I have been feeling so crummy lately and figured it was just part of being pregnant. So between working and everyday life I have been exhausted. Thank goodness for the hubby!

Well yesterday I went in to work feeling especially bad, and someone came over to chat and told me I looked awful. I broke into tears, and wanted so badly to be back in bed. I felt awful, I know I looked awful, but seriously…I don’t want someone that I barely know telling me it. I called my GP, made an appointment and left work.

As it would turn out, it wasn’t normal pregnancy stuff and I have two ear infection and a sinus infection; and apparently now allergies (which I have never had in the life…thanks baby).

So I decided to bite the bullet and use my hours I have so carefully been saving for my first official “sick day” in the 9 months of working there.

The upside is I slept in and walked my pup this morning, but it’s back to the grind in the morning.

Fluffy Tinies

17 Jun

About a month ago during a meeting at work it became apparent that there was something living in the air ducts that was not supposed to be there. Facing what he was sure would be some less than delightful rodent, our maintenance man headed into the ducts. When he came down he had with him three of the tiniest, cutest kittens ever. Turned out I opened my big mouth about keeping one before actually thinking it through and I {we} ended up with one gray and one orange 4-ish week old kittens.

The hubby quickly realized he was allergic and they had to go. It was a sad day but I knew it was for the best. But for those two days both Teddy and I loved these little fluff balls.

The hubby and I know that eventually Teddy will need a friend of sorts, maybe even need a fluffy white lady friend.

Fashionable Friday – The Jean Jacket

16 Jun

I know, I know it’s not Friday. I am only a day late, so I am posting it anyways.

Jean on top in an outfit has always seemed to be a risky move to me. That fine line between looking too 80′s or too farmer’s daughter is crossed far too often.

Yet I seem to be finding myself in a bit of a bind lately, I don’t look pregnant yet, but I also don’t have my flat tummy anymore. This unknown territory leaves me wanting to cover my midsection or at least distract from it. Being that it is Summer that doesn’t seem to be working out so well for me. Hence the search for anything that is relatively inexpensive and easily adaptable across my now changing wardrobe.

The jean jacket seems to be the perfect piece to throw over shorts, a dress, or a skirt and loose top. It pulls it all together while hugging the parts I don’t mind being hugged right now, my waist and arms. I love that I can wear it open or closed and that it goes with pretty much every color.

Here are some favorites I have found:

Nordstrom - here and here

American Eagle - here.

Poppy the Avocado

13 Jun

Dear Poppy,

I’m feeling better, thank goodness! This week I was able to get happy hour with girls, stay up until almost 9 without feeling too awful the next day and brush my teeth without dry heaving. Baby steps, pun intended.

The doctor says you sound great and are moving around like no other, maybe its the coffee I can’t give up. Shhh. It’s our secret.

You still love sushi, bagels and lemon flavored pellegrino. Mint chip ice cream is also completely irresistible. Lucky for me at four months the weight isn’t piling on yet, three pounds to be exact, go us! I don’t think anyone would guess I was pregnant and for that I am thankful. The whole people touching me thing is freaking me out already. Stay as small as possible, pretty please.

This week I was telling your Aunt Jenny in Chicago that you were the size of a large avocado and that I was craving tequila, she thinks you might be Mexican. She cracks me up.

Until next week. Oh and feel free to share that energy you have with me.
